What is serendipitous Marketing? Is serendipitous Marketing right for me?
As we move more and more into a world of measurable investments we must be careful not to completely neglect un-measurable investments in Marketing. Serendipitous Marketing is possibly more important to your marketing efforts than ever. Serendipitous Marketing is basically everything that doesn’t come with any metrics or proof of immediate benefits.
Does this mean that I should not bother with Serendipitous Marketing?
Quite the contrary, Serendipitous marketing has never been so important to your online Marketing efforts. Let say for example you decide on investing your time in creating some visual content that would take you a few days to create, just to put on a blog post, is that a good investment? Some people would tell you no, Yet is that the right answer? Lets talk about what could happen if you would design visual content like no other. First, lets say that content gets posted on your blog and then a large media outlet decides to run an article about a similar topic and while they are searching for visual content they fall onto yours. Since you took the time to really create some dynamite visuals they decide to use your visuals with their article. Now your two day investment just landed you a landslide of powerful links and relevant visitors for years!
What can I try?
What about speaking at an event or maybe just attending? There will be new opportunity that will arise , but does not mean that it will pay off. What happens if someone really liked your presentation, so much that the individual wants you to guest blog on there site. Then you come to find out that his name is Rand Fishkin Ceo of Moz former Seomoz. Then this is a whole different story, once your post was published the traffic alone doubled your sites visitors let alone what it brought in on your social network.

So Serendipitous Marketing is a Gamble?
For some people all marketing aspects need to be measured, especially in this day and age. So does that mean we should not invest in marketing tactics that do not yield results every time? First of all you may want to think about a saying everyone knows “You won’t win if you don`t try” this is the perfect example when mentioning serendipitous Marketing. Without trying different things you will never hit the Jackpot. Another quote that I associate Serendipitous Marketing is “ I haven’t failed in my attempts I just tried a bunch of ways that didn’t work!”
How much energy should I invest in Serendipitous Marketing?
Investing all your time into a marketing effort with no metrics to follow or no guarantee would not be the best road to travel. Yet investing 10 to 20 percent of your time may definitely pay off sooner than later. Its about being creative, stepping outside of the box. Finding topics and subjects that have not yet been explored, then exploiting them with a touch of flare! Just remember Serendipitous Marketing will pay off in the long run.
